A beautiful extension for a beautiful family home

006.jpg

We had already built a deck, door and porch for the Finch Jenkins family, so knew they were going to be the dream clients to build their dream extension for.

The vision was to extend the ground floor to create an entertainment area for them and their two young kids, to include a new kitchen and living space; and for us, a chance to show what we can do.

Over the few months it took to build, Cobus and Adi worked their magic alongside Marie and Vinnie designing, planning and building; from the foundations to the finishing touches, the dream extension was complete. and everyone just loves it.

The most distinctive features are all custom made by Cobus and Adi, including the bespoke windows, concrete kitchen work tops designed by Marie and took a whole day of polishing! Sliding doors that disappear in to the wall to create 1 or 2 rooms , and the huge dining table for about 20 children to sit around, be an office and for Marie to use to bake thousands of cakes for her business!

We listened to our clients and have exceeded all expectations. We absolutely LOVED making this extension.

We took a little break to welcome him in to the world

Thank you to everyone for your well wishes. We could not be happier.

The Aartvarks at the Oxford Christmas Lights festival

This weekend we set up our second pop up designer shop for the magnificent Oxford Lights Christmas festival. We were in amongst the hubuzz of Broad Street’, the food stalls, craft market, music and illuminations!. We were really happy to see so many of our friends, to meet new friends, and to showcase some of Cobus’s exceptional work. (Even if we do say so ourselves!). We were absolutely delighted with all the lovely comments.

While we are looking for a showroom to have these pieces on permanent display, these pop up shops are the only places to see (and touch!) our art. It’s so exciting to get out of the workshop and away from the building site for a few days to meet new people that appreciate good woodwork.

Thanks Oxford! Feeling very motivated to find that showroom, so please let us know if you know of anywhere!

aARTvarks bespoke furniture collection launched at Country File Live

The allusive aARTvarks and their amazing furniture creations were spotted at this years Country File Live. We decided to take up residency in the gardens of Blenheim palace and see if we could attract customers in to our wood delight lair.

The show was great, if not a little bit hot. We spent most of it in front of a fan hoping our Van Gogh dining table didn’t warp! It did a bit, but the many people (and dogs!… ) who visited us and chatted about our work made our days.

Everything you see is lovingly designed and made by Adi Arad Woodworking and Cobus Swart.

For more information on our furniture please visit our shop, or get in touch.

For items from Adi Arad Woodworking, please visit the website and get in touch.

New website, new logo, the aARTvarks are ready to go go go!

What to write what to write!!! Firstly, welcome to The aARTvark Collective!

I thought I'd start by telling you where we got our name from. An Aardvark is a Southern African animal (surprisingly, as big as a small car bonnet), and comes across as genuinely calm, hard working animal, and all round nice chap. (Like Cobus!) In Afrikaans the translation is "earthpig". When thinking of our name we played around a bit and thought about calling ourselves "SwartVark"... being our surname... but we just couldn't stop laughing. So we are the African Artpig...aARTvark, and we are a collective of them... .including our dog Harry #aARTbark.

It's fun, and can be tiring being an aartvark. Through this blog we will share our projects with you, along with the trials and tribulations, blood, sweat, laughter, and love that goes in to creating our business here in the UK. Thanks to those who will join us on this journey. You can follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We'd love people to get involved, share their art, ideas, inspirations; comment on our work, or just on how scruffy and cute Harry is. .

Relaunching our company in the UK is the most exciting thing we have done in our lives, so we just want to say a huge thank you to all of those that have helped us get this far, so far. Our mums and pops, Meg, Julia, Robbo, especially to our Oxford family. You know who you are. You're all aARTvarks now!. : )

Love Cobus, Kate and Harry SwART.
